CPSC recalls Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets due to possible suffocation hazard

Posted on 06 November 2012

Parents know that one of their main duties in life includes keeping their baby safe. Whether they've had children before or they're first-time moms and dads, it's important that they take the time to look over product recalls from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). This federal agency frequently lists items that have been called back due to potential safety hazards.

Most recently, the CPSC published a notification on its website informing the public that Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets could present infant suffocation dangers. The bottom of the locking appliance may fail to secure properly if a spring is not installed correctly. This could result in the bassinet leaning to one side, causing infants to roll over and asphyxiate.

Although this peril is certainly not commonplace, there have been 17 incidents reported, but the CPSC failed to go into greater detail about how tiny tots were affected. However, the press release did reveal that in two episodes, newborns purportedly had trouble breathing after they rolled to the side of their bassinet.

The item that was recalled was sold at Target, Toys R Us and Sears stores around the United States from December 2007 to January 2011 for around $150. Parents were also able to purchase the bassinets on Ebay and other internet sites.

If you're the owner of the Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinet, don't delay. Keep your lovebug safe as can be when he or she is sleeping. The CPSC recommends that you stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer, Dorel Juvenile Group, to get a free repair kit, which comes with a spring and instructions for proper assembly.
